Among the activities scheduled this November is a Parade (November 15), Playground Demonstration (November 22), Literary and Musical Contest (November 27) and the Child Development Workers’ Summit (November 29).
Marlyn Dugos, Early Childhood Care and Development Focal said that the highlight of the month’s activities is the “State of the Children’s Address” which is expected to be delivered by Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez on November 22. The talk will underscore the development initiatives of the City Government for children.
Currently, the local government maintains 68 day care centers catering to over 4,000 pupils ages 3 to 4 years old. A 4-month supplemental feeding program is being implemented in each center to address the incidence of malnutrition in the City.
Day care workers will attend the November 29 summit at the Robinsons North Tacloban. The summit which will be spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) will be the first to be organised in the region.
November is declared as the National Children’s Month through Republic Act No. 10661, s. 2015. The adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly on November 20, 1989 is commemorated by this declaration.
