October 19, 2021 No Comments on Tacloban City Honors War VeteransA day before the 77th Anniversary of the Leyte Gulf Landing, the remaining war heroes of the city received cash incentives and gifts in honor of their bravery and sacrifices. The six surviving veterans are Teresa Olino Malpas, Epistemia Redona Rama, Paciencia Kempis Tripoli, Eduardo Aguilar Bermudo; and centenarians Maxima Aviles Satorre, and Jose Acuna Acedillo.
Coincides the Veterans Day celebration, Acedillo celebrates his 101st birthday today. The Medical Aide Veteran was surprised by Tingog Partylist Representative Yedda Marie Romualdez and Hiraya Tacloban President Raymund Romualdez who personally delivered the gifts to Lolo Jose. The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office likewise greeted Acedillo with a birthday cake.
Tacloban City celebrates World War II Veterans Day every 19th of October under City Ordinance 2007-9-65.
