Mayor Alfred Romualdez, together with some department heads of LGU Tacloban and other government offices, members of different church organizations, and the Catholic faithful attended the said celebration.
Archbishop Du in his homily, explained about the Jubilee door and said that ‘the door is a symbol of God’s call for us to be holy and close to Him, giving us a chance and inviting us to start our lives all over again’.
Bishop Du continued: “Sins are being pardoned, just as in the olden times during a jubilee, when debts are forgotten.
“The archbishop also advised the people to ‘give pardon to those who have committed sins against (you)’. He sites the pandemic as an unseen enemy wherein some are losing initiatives.
He continues: “All these shall pass. Don’t lose hope. The power of God, the grace of God is bigger than COVID 19. Open the door to the mercy of God. Jesus is the door. There is only one door and that is Jesus. We can only make our life fruitful and meaningful if we are connected to the Vine. We can only be fruitful if Jesus is with us.”
The Archbishop also explained that ‘whatever we acquire on earth are not permanent. We are pilgrims on a journey and the life that we have is transient and temporary; and this life is a basis to our entrance into the Kingdom of Heaven. He further tells everyone to “Listen to Jesus”.
