The newly refurbished San Jose District Health Center at Barangay 86, Tacloban City, is now fully equipped to deliver top-tier services to residents of the San Jose and Marasbaras districts. This upgrade, driven by the partnership between the City Government of Tacloban under Mayor Alfred Romualdez, Liga ng mga Barangay led by President Raymund Romualdez, and SM Foundation Inc., enhances healthcare access for more than 44,000 community members.

The renovation has added essential amenities, including a Counseling Room, Breastfeeding Station for nursing mothers, children’s play area, Birthing Area, Consultation and Treatment space, Family Planning Room, Delivery, Labor and Recovery Rooms, Dental Clinic, and a DigiKonsultaStation for paperless transactions. New fixtures and medical equipment provided by SMFI further support these services.

“This project aligns with our city’s plans to make healthcare facilities more accessible to our community,” said Raymund Romualdez, thanking SMFI Health and Medical Programs Executive Director Connie Angeles and Senior Program Manager Albert Uy for their support in making the said partnership possible.

The center’s services include routine immunizations, general consultations, TB DOTS sessions every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., dispensing of maintenance medicines on weekdays, and normal birthing services—excluding first and fifth births, per Department of Health guidelines.

Following a two-month renovation work with a budget of Php 2.5 million, the district health center was officially turned over on November 14, 2024. Acting City Health Officer Dr. Gloria Fabrigas, who was among the officials present at the turnover event, expressed her enthusiasm for the facility’s progress.

Additionally, five (5) more Super Health Centers are being constructed in Barangays 105, 74, 97, 94, and Tacloban North to further provide healthcare services to grassroots communities.
