Public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and operators in Tacloban City are currently participating in a road safety seminar, with 500 participants attending each day. The said seminar, which started October 14, 2024, stresses the critical importance of commuter safety, seeking to instill safer driving habits and heightened awareness among participants.

This seminar is a mandatory requirement for the renewal of their business permits. It is also part of the city government’s comprehensive efforts to enhance road safety, ensuring that drivers not only operate legally but likewise adhere to practices that safeguard the commuting public.

Key topics covered during the seminar include Traffic Rules and Regulations, Defensive Driving Techniques, Vehicle Maintenance, Alcohol and Drug Awareness, Passenger and Pedestrian Safety, and Environmental Impact.

The road safety seminar will run until October 31, with two sessions conducted per day to accommodate all participants at the Tacloban City New Bus Terminal.

According to Traffic Operation Management and Enforcement Control Office (TOMECO) spokesperson Isabelo “Jobs” Lagutan, the road safety seminar is being by led TOMECO in collaboration with the Tacloban City Police Office, and Business Permits Licensing Division.

As per records from the licensing office, over 3,000 PUVs including jeepneys, motor cabs for hire, and e-trikes are expected to renew in 2025.
