September 13, 2019 No Comments on DA, City Gov’t distribute farm tractors, peanut seedlings to North Tacloban Farmers AssociationsTACLOBAN CITY (CIO) — The Department of Agriculture (DA) Regional Office 8 together with the City Government of Tacloban turned over three heavy tractors and 20 bags of peanut seeds to farmers associations in the northern barangays on Friday, September 13, at Brgy. 106 Sto Niño.
Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez and DA Regional Executive Director Milo D. Delos Reyes led the turnover of the 1 million worth, 45 Hp four-wheel-drive Farm Tractors with disc plow and trailing harrow to the four farmers association.

Among the recipients were Paglaum Farmers Association (FA), Sta. Elena Integrated FA, Nagkaorusa San Roque FA and Camansihay Upland Farmers Association.
Meanwhile, Farmers Association from barangays San Roque and Camansihay respectively received 10 sacks each of white and red peanut seedlings, as part of the effort to turn the two barangays into peanut-growing communities.
“Out of 19 active Farmers Association, the two were chosen to be the peanut zone of Tacloban City. They have the potential area and attitude to this kind of productivity development efforts,” explained, City Agriculturist Dr. Alfredo Camposano.

“About 3.3 hectares it tatamnan ine ngan igra-radiate ine nira dire la ha association kundi within the barangay community,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mayor Romualdez, in his message emphasized that farmers association should be responsible enough to take care of the farm tractors for this will lighten their farm labor.
“Kaya gusto ko naman na alagaan niyo yan. Mahalin niyo ang mga tractors na yan dahil malaki ang maitutulong sa inyo. At ako pangako ko sa inyo, ang City Government na ang bibili nito pagnakita ko umabot ng ilang taon at naalagan niyo yan,” said the chief executive.
According to Delos Reyes, the said subproject, under the Yolanda Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Program (YRRP), aims to improve the farm productivity of the beneficiaries through machinery support and increase farmers’ income.

”Nawa po ang mga proyekto kagaya po nitong tractor at mani ay magkaroon ng additional na kita ang mga magsasaka upang ang mga ito ay magiging competitive at sa ganon ay hindi aalis sa sakahan,” Delos Reyes said.
Present also during the activity were DA Regional Technical Director Larry Sultan, Committee Chairperson on Ways and Means Chairperson Councilor Leo Bahin, and Councilors Aimee Grafil and Bryan Granados. – C. Merin/CIO
