December 16, 2019 No Comments on City Gov’t to commend Top Taxpayers in HUC Anniversary ProgramTACLOBAN CITY (CIO) — (UPDATED 12/17/2019) A recognition program for the City’s Top Taxpayers will highlight the 11th Anniversary of Tacloban’s conversion into a Highly Urbanized City (HUC), this December 18, 2019.
Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez will lead the program, along with other officials of the local government at 9:00 am on Wednesday at the Tacloban City Training Center (USAID Building).
The said recognition rite is yearly organized by the City Treasurer’s Office to acknowledge the companies and individuals who have significantly contributed to improving the financial condition of the city, and pave the way for the sustained realization of major development projects and improve the delivery of basic services to Taclobanons.
Meantime, Mayor Romualdez declared Wednesday a local holiday in Tacloban City through Executive Order 19-12-186.
Per the EO, work in government institutions/offices is temporarily suspended, except for offices involved in the maintenance of peace and order, disaster risk management, health, and sanitation, and traffic management.
Meanwhile, coinciding with the HUC Anniversary is the City Government Christmas Party at the Baluarte Beach Resort in San Jose, Tacloban City which will start with a Holy Mass at 11:00 am; followed by a lunch get-together sponsored by Mayor Romualdez.
The group presentations of the different offices, fun games and raffle draw will also highlight the Christmas Party.
Meanwhile, with the influx of various businesses and improved infrastructures, economic progress has become more evident in the past years despite the downside experienced by the City after Typhoon Yolanda in 2013.
It is noteworthy that for the past eleven years, Tacloban has received numerous National and Regional Awards and Citations recognizing its exemplary performance and programs.
Further validating its outstanding performance in Financial Administration, Social Protection, Disaster Resiliency, Peace and Order, Environmental Management, Business Competitiveness, and Tourism, the lone HUC in Eastern Visayas was conferred its 3rd Seal of Good Local Governance, recently by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) this year.
Tacloban City was converted into a HUC during the first term of Mayor Romualdez, when an overwhelming number of Taclobanons voted “Yes” in a plebiscite held on December 18, 2008. – H.J. Roca/CIO
