City Gov’t spearheads Children’s Congress
March 27, 2019 No Comments on City Gov’t spearheads Children’s CongressTACLOBAN CITY (CIO) – Pursuant to Presidential Decree 603 which puts a premium on the protection and welfare of Children, the City Government through the leadership of Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez and the Local Council for the Protection of Children led the holding of the Children’s Congress on Wednesday, March 27.
At least a hundred participants composed of Elementary school children, teachers, and Barangay Officials coming 20 City Barangays attended the first day of the event held at the Tacloban City Training Center.
The event will provide an avenue for children to be “heard” and be aware of their rights said City Social Welfare Officer Remedios Buna.
Speakers from the CSWDO, City Youth Hub and World Vision will discuss topics such as the UNCRC: Rights and Responsibilities of a Child, the Children’s Code and Child Representation in the Barangay Council for the Protection of Children and a report on the situation of Children in Tacloban.
Topics on Child health such as Internet Safety and Healthy Childhood will be tackled as well by representatives from the City Health Office and Plan International.
Other co-sponsors are the Department of Interior and Local Government, and the City Division Office of the Department of Education.
