Romualdez on Thursday at the Covered Court of St. Francis Village in Barangay Suhi.
Bobonao whose house was damaged during typhoon Ursula last December 2019 was among 200 beneficiaries from 14 northern barangays who trooped to the covered court for the distribution on Thursday morning.
“Dako ine nga bulig ha amon pamilya, labi na nga naruba an atop han amon balay, said Bobonao who plans to buy roofing materials and some food with the financial assistance.
Acting City Social Welfare and Development Chief Fe Chona Bahin said that the aid forms part of the over 3.8 Million pesos earmarked by the City Government of Tacloban from its calamity fund to help households with totally-damaged houses.
According to the CSWDO, the beneficiaries were identified through the damage assessment conducted by barangay officials after the typhoon.
“The affected barangays conducted their damage assessment, which in turn, was verified and validated by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) and the CSWDO,” Bahin clarified.
Meantime, Mayor Romualdez said that while the cash assistance is part of the commitment of the local government to help typhoon-affected households, it is important to be prepared during calamities.
“Pag-aralan na natin… maging handa na tayo dahil nag-iiba na ang panahon. Pero happy naman ako na wala tayong casualty,”said the Mayor during the cash distribution.
The Chief Executive also assured the residents that the local government is doing its best to bring the much-needed utilities in the resettlements sites, and disclosed that talks with concerned government agencies have been conducted for this purpose.
Meanwhile, on Thursday afternoon, around 570 households from barangays 93, 94, 94-A, 97, 98, 100, 101, 102, 105, 106, 108, 107, 56-A, and 52 also received the cash assistance which totaled over 2.8 Million pesos at the Tacloban City Training Center.
