March 11, 2020 No Comments on BHWs EMPOWEREDActing City Health Officer Dr. Gloria Fabrigas on Wednesday talks to the 450 Barangay Health Workers (BHW) to help the City government of Tacloban strengthen the surveillance regarding COVID-19 in their respective community.
The BHWs, as one of the members of the Barangay Health Emergency Response Team (BHERT), will help in the monitoring and surveillance, said the official.
Other members of BHERTs include the barangay captain as chair, the barangay kagawad on health as vice with the barangay midwife or nurse, and barangay tanods.
BHERTs are responsible for tracking of persons with history of foreign travel, identification of persons under monitoring (PUMs) and persons under investigation (PUIs), informing the City Health Office of suspected person after identification as PUM, monitoring PUMs on a daily basis, and taking of vital signs of the PUM – with mask – specifically temperature three times a day.
Aside from the briefing, Dr. Fabrigas and other health personnel in the City Health Office demonstrate on how to do the proper handwashing to avoid the said disease.
