Barangay ‘tanods’ undergo skills training
November 26, 2019 No Comments on Barangay ‘tanods’ undergo skills trainingTACLOBAN CITY (CIO) — To upgrade and sharpen the skills of Barangay Tanods or barangay police officers in maintaining peace and order, a Skills Enhancement Training was organized for them from November 26-27, 2019.
More than 50 barangay tanods from the different barangays in Tacloban City will participate in the two-day event, spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), in coordination with the City Government through the leadership of Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez together with the Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas, Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and Tacloban City Rescue Unit.
According to DILG Assistant for Operations Maridel B. Burgos, the said activity aims to enhance the capabilities of the local Barangay Tanods with proper knowledge and skills training in the performance of their duties on crime prevention and quick response.
“These skills will enable them to inculcate the necessary roles and functions that they have to perform as policemen in the barangay,” she added.
Meanwhile, Glenn O. Amon, LGOO VI, one of the speakers, gave lectures on how to achieve a peaceful and safe environment through the topic ‘Barangay at Pulisya Laban sa Krimen’ (BPLK).
Apart from that, discussions on how to conduct investigations and demonstration on proper handcuffing techniques were also highlighted.
Vice Mayor Jerry ‘Sambo’ Yaokasin also graced the event who gave an inspirational message and lauded the said participants for ensuring a much safer community for the people of Tacloban.
Among the barangay tanods who underwent the said skills training were from barangays 5, 25, 58, 65, 69, 74, 81, 82, 83-C and others.
The said Skills Enhancement Training for Barangay Tanods is one of the flagship programs of the DILG under the Barangay Newly Elected Officials (BNEO) program. In line with this, DILG is set to conduct the same type of training this coming November 28-29, 2019. – C. Merin/CIO
