ADVANCING FOOD SECURITY WITHIN COMMUNITIES
September 9, 2021 No Comments on ADVANCING FOOD SECURITY WITHIN COMMUNITIESAn approximate of one hundred (100) clients per day continuously benefit from the City Agriculturist’s “Free Seeds and Seedlings Program,” which gave birth to special projects like the “Gulayan sa Paaralan” serving 64 public schools in the city, the provision of seeds and seedlings to the communal gardens in the resettlement sites in Tacloban North, and the distribution of seeds to the financial beneficiaries at the MASA Center.
This update from City Agri Head Dr. Alfredo “Boy” Camposano, is an indication of the successful implementation of Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez’ city-wide “New Green Revolution Program” which targets the utilization of the city’s vacant lots to homeyard or communal garden to promote food security, economic stability, and food nutrition supply.
With City Agri providing techno-extension assistance and input support depending on the availability of assorted vegetable seeds and ready-to-plant vegetable seedlings, agriculture has found its way from the northern part down to the urban barangays in Tacloban City.
Meanwhile, Dr. Camposano encourages Taclobanons who are interested to venture into homeyard gardening to visit their office along Justice Romualdez Street (in-between TACRU and CEO Gym) for free vegetable seeds and seedlings.
