The βNo Segregation, No Business Permit Renewalβ policy is currently being strictly enforced in the public markets in Tacloban City
According to Market Superintendent Engr. Danilo Alajas, market guards conduct daily rounds in all buildings of the market, supported by daily public announcements, ensuring that merchants are well-informed about this regulation and have no reason not to comply.
Vendors who repeatedly disregard this policy will not have their business permits renewed for 2025. The Market Operations Office will only allow up to three (3) violations, Alajas stated.
Every day at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., garbage trucks made rounds in the market to collect segregated waste.
The segregation of biodegradable, non-biodegradable, and recyclable scrap has long been a rule set by the Market Operations Office for vendors, but non-compliance by some has led to stricter enforcement.
In addition to following Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, this measure is intended to maintain cleanliness and safety in the market areas managed by the city government and at the same time ensure safe food and products available in these facilities.
To date, the city government oversees five (5) public markets situated in San Jose, Tacloban North, Shopping Center, Kadiwa, and in the downtown area.
