TACLOBAN CITY – The City Government of Tacloban under Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez through its City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) gathered recently the Chairmen of the 138 Barangays for a whole-day activity at the Tacloban City Training Center to update them of activities relating to Disaster Preparedness and governance.

Among the topics discussed during the Semestral Barangay Assembly on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management held last week (May 10) was the proper utilization of the 5% calamity fund and clarifications on the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) Fund. The inventory of the 2014 and 2016 Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Contingency Plans and Tacloban City Risk Profile was also took up.

The City DILG also gave inputs on how the Village Chiefs can help the local government comply with the 2017 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), since Disaster Preparedness is one of the performance criteria included in the conferment of the seal.

The bi-annual activity is part of the Comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan of Tacloban which aims to establish coordination and monitoring activities with the Barangays on matters relating to effective disaster preparedness.

Disaster preparedness is a priority thrust of Mayor Romualdez under the Clean Green and Resilient (CGR) Tacloban Program.  Under the program  are  projects which promotes sustainability, adaptability and  participatory governance. – HENRY JAMES G. ROCA/CIO
