An Annotated Programme “Taking Climate Action to the Next Level” (Realizing the Vision of the Paris Agreement) will be sponsored by the United Nations at the UN Headquarters in New York City on April 22, 2016.
“This high level event will focus on highlighting how all actors of society and economy can accelerate action – learn from each other – and replicate and scale successful initiatives and activities that will deliver the transformative implementation of the landmark Paris Climate Change Agreement.” (UN)
The event will present high – level speakers in four thematic sessions – among them Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez who will deliver the Key Message: “Importance of National and Sub-national Collaboration.” Since cities are often on the front line of dealing with the impacts of climate change – national responses to building climate change resilience must ensure effective collaboration between national and sub-national levels if they are to be efficient and effective.
Mayor Alfred will be asked to tell the assembly how a City’s collaboration with National Government and other cities can strengthen resilience.
Other speakers include the Prime Minister of Fiji, Minister in Charge of water, Morocco, Chairman of the Committee on World Food Security (SOM) President of WWF (ECU), Governor Jerry Brown of California, Mr. Jeffrey Sachs US Director of The Earth Institute, Ms Helen Clark, UNDP Administrator, Minister of Environment (GER) Princess Abzeita Djima, Founder Abze Solar and other CEO’s of various world Environment Agencies.
The fourth Session during which Mayor Alfred will speak focuses on “Strengthening Resilience to Climate Impacts to protect the most vulnerable.
He is the only Asian and the only City Mayor who will speak at this very prestigious event.
Congratulations, Mayor – The world recognizes your great contribution to its fund of Climate Change Knowledge having handled efficiently and effectively the damage to our City by Super Typhoon Yolanda. #ClimateAction #ResilientTacloban #ILoveTacloban
