Tacloban Social Pensioners receive stipend
TACLOBAN CITY – Indigent senior citizens of this City have started receiving their social pension on Tuesday, September 11, at the New City Hall Building lobby
Five Thousand three hundred seventy-three (5,373) registered Social Pensioners in Tacloban will receive the three-quarter stipend worth PHP 4,500 during the cash payout that will be held until September 28, 2018, said the City Social Welfare Office (CSWDO). The payout is being facilitated by the Cash Division Office of the City Government.
The Social Pension Program is government assistance in the amount of P500 monthly stipend to needy senior citizens, provided under Section 5 of Republic Act 9994 otherwise known as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010. It is intended to augment the daily subsistence and other medical needs of indigent senior citizens.
Qualified to avail of the program are senior citizens 60 and above, sickly, frail or disabled, not receiving pension benefits from private or government agencies, and without a regular source of income or support from any family member.
The Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and the CSWDO, located at the Balyuan Executive Building along Magsaysay Boulevard accepts and processes applications for the pension program. Applicants need only to bring the following requirements: Osca ID, birth certificate and certificate of indigency upon the application of the program.
