Public Consultation on Constitutional Reform held in Tacloban
TACLOBAN CITY – A Courtesy Visit by Members of the House Committee on Constitutional Amendment headed by its Chairman Southern Leyte Representative Roger Mercado was received by Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez on Tuesday, April 4 at the CMO Boardroom.
City Administrator Atty. Irene Chiu joined Mayor Romualdez when she received the group composed of Leyte 3rd District Congressman Vicente Veloso, Batangas 4th District Congw. Lianda Bolilia, Congw. Victoria Noel of An Waray Partylist, and Cong. Aniceto Bertiz III of ACTS-OFW Party List who went here for the Public Consultation on Constitutional Reform held at the RTR Medical Foundation.
Congressman Mercado said the public consultation is intended to “feel” the pulse of the people on the proposed change of government from Unitary Form (Presidential) to Federal Parliamentary
According to him three concerns will be addressed during the public consultation, how do we amend the constitution, is there a need to revise the constitution, and what provisions to amend.
The Solon said the input they will get from the public consultation will be used when deliberations for the proposed amendments commences in Congress.
He added that charter change can be carried in any of the three processes: Constitutional Convention, Constituent Assembly and People’s Initiative.
