President Duterte appoints Mayor Cristina as new RDC 8 Chair
TACLOBAN CITY – Mayor Cristina Gonzalez-Romualdez has just been appointed Chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC), Region VIII by President Rodrigo R. Duterte.
Signed by President Duterte on February 9, 2017, the appointment of Mayor Romualdez will be for a term of three years.
The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) in a congratulatory letter through Regional Director Atty. Bonifacio Uy said it welcome the appointment of Mayor Romualdez and “draw inspiration from the exemplary leadership and commitment to public service exhibited by… (the) Mayor of Tacloban.”
Uy added that, “…(the appointment of Mayor Romualdez) (is a) timely assurance that the economic recovery of Eastern Visayas shall be effectively steered and accelerated.”
As the highest planning and policy-making body in the region, the Regional Development Council (RDC) serves as the counterpart of the NEDA Board at the sub-national level. It coordinates and sets the direction of all economic and social development efforts in the Region. -HENRY JAMES G. ROCA/CIO
