TACLOBAN CITY (CIO) – The National Government’s PUV Modernization Program was launched on Tuesday, January 23 in Tacloban with Department of Transportation (DOTr) Assistant Secretary Mark Richmond de Leon and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Atty. Martin Delgra, along with representatives of the Presidential Assistant for Visayas and the City Government.

Forty Five E-jeepneys were given franchises by LTFRB as part of the program which focuses on an environmentally sound transport system; to improve passenger safety, professionalize the public transport industry and modernize the country’s existing PUV fleet by making the shift to low carbon emission vehicles. The e-jeepneys travel the route going to the North Resettlement Sites.

In a message read during the launching, Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez thanked President Rodrigo Duterte for piloting the program in Tacloban; and emphasized that the program will help alleviate the transportation requirements of Yolanda survivors living in Tacloban North. The Chief Executive also underscored that the program supports her initiative of a Clean, Green and Resilient Tacloban. -Henry James Roca
