“Hinatukan Festival” to highlight Tacloban leg of Flavors of the Philippines Festival
TACLOBAN CITY – In its effort to market Tacloban as an ideal destination for food lovers and other gastronomy-related events, the City Government under Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez will host on April 7-8, 2017, a cultural and food festival dubbed, “Flavors of the Philippines Taste Eastern Visayas Food Market.”
Highlights of the of the two-day event, which is part of the Flavors of the Philippines – a month-long cultural and food festival spearheaded by the Department of Tourism is the Hinatukan Festival and Trade Fair at Plaza Rizal.
Owing to the popularity of local cuisine which uses coconut milk among Taclobanons, the Tacloban leg will feature local cuisine and desserts cooked and made with coconut milk. Coco milk is an ubiquitous ingredient in many local fare, thanks to the abundance of coconut in the region, its main agricultural crop.
The Food Market will have local restaurants and food producers showcasing native cuisine and delicacies that is expected to entice food bloggers and guests from Manila.
Barangay Nutrition Scholars will also stage a Cooking Demo that will feature a menu of affordable and nutritious meals perfect for the family .
