The Tacloban City Mayor’s Office would like to sincerely commend the humanitarian efforts of the Fuel Relief Fund NGO for providing free fuel to hospitals, government agencies and volunteer NGOs to power their vehicles and generators after the devastation of typhoon Yolanda. After the storm had passed and there was rampant looting in the city, even the gasoline stations were not spared as most of all of their supplies were drained by the desperate. In the few days following the storm, many vehicles of the city and several hospitals could not function as fuel was indeed scarce. Even international and local NGOs could not immediately act on their humanitarian efforts.  The Fuel Relief Fund arrived and managed to get a gas station up and running to help provide free fuel for all NGOs and hospitals. They even managed to get a fuel tanker which they brought around to distribute free fuel to different affected areas of the region. The free fuel helped to power up generators and vehicles so that people could make certain facilities operational, and also so  vehicles could be used to evacuate family memberes to safer places and to obtain supplies that were far from their reach.

Specifically for the mayor’s office, the Fuel Relief Fund provides us with 5 barrels of diesel every day, to help run the heavy equipment needed to clear the streets of Tacloban of debris and garbage left by the typhoon.

To Ted Honcharik of Fuel Relief Fund and all your personnel– Tacloban City extends its thanks for assisting in our relief and recovery efforts.

Of course, there is still a lot of work left to be done before Tacloban City fully recovers, and the city could still use a lot more aid in helping rebuild shelters, facilities, utilities and lives.
