CDRRMO: no casualties, injuries during Basyang
TACLOBAN CITY (CIO) – Except for a resident affected by mudslide, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), this City reported no injuries and casualties as Basyang barreled through the City early this week.
The office responded to a resident affected by the mudslide in Purok 6, Barangay 74. The rescued resident, a 73-year-old Senior Citizen is now temporarily sheltered at the DTC facility of the CSWDO in Diit.
Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez promptly ordered the evacuation of residents in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas to designated evacuation centers on Wednesday, while departments involved in the delivery of services during emergencies, monitored the situation.
Meantime, the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) culminated its relief efforts on Thursday, February 15 in Communities affected by flooding.
According to a report from the CSWDO it served 172 families sheltered in 8 evacuation centers namely, Don Vicente Memorial School (Barangay 92), Tacloban Astrodome, Brgy. 59 Gym, Marasbaras Elementary School, Brgy. 109 –A Day Care Center, Brgy. 77 Fatima Evacuation Center, Nazarene Church (Young field), Jermses Abucay Elementary School and Brgy. 83-C Hall and Health Center.
The CSWDO gave out food packs consisting of ready to eat items to the affected families in 7 City Barangays.
On February 13 and 14, Mayor Romualdez issued a series of Executive Orders suspending classes on all levels in public and private schools in Tacloban to ensure the safety of students; while work in Government offices within the City was also suspended on Wednesday.– Henry James Roca
