City Gov’t moves re Jail Noise Barrage
TACLOBAN CITY – City Administrator Irene Chiu met with Jail Superintendent Peter Bongngat today, February 10 re the noise barrage of the City Jail inmates, February 9.
Bongngat reported that stringent measures aimed at stopping all drug-related activities in the City Jail was the main cause of such a protest.
Inspection of the jail premises by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) revealed that drugs and other contraband effects, bladed weapons were found in the different cells – hence the transfer of the previous jail warden and the relief of some jail guards.
The City Administrator acting on behalf of Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez who was called to a meeting in Malacañang last Thursday also made her own investigation of the conditions in the Jail premises, which she will relay to the Chief Executive for immediate solution and rectification of some problems involving physical improvements of the City Jail and stricter compliance by Jail Management with existing laws, rules and regulations – HENRY JAMES G.
