City Government of Tacloban Unveils Typhoon Yolanda Memorial Markers
Tacloban City—Two memorial markers were unveiled by Mayor Alfred Romualdez to commemorate the second year typhoon Yolanda anniversary. On November 7, the Anibong Memorial Marker located at a coastal area in Tacloban was unveiled and on November 8, the Astrodome Memorial Marker was uncovered near the Tacloban Astrodome.
Among the guests in the unveiling ceremonies were foreign dignitaries from the Embassy of the United States, Kernel Bryan Bell and Major Michael Rosinski, Mr. Michael Hasper of the German Embassy, Mr. Toto Waspodo of the Indonesian Embassy, and Mr. Abdul Kerim Celik and Mr. Borak Saritaria of the Turkish Embassy. Also present were His Excellency Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senator Nancy Binay, Senator Gringo Honasan, Senator Bongbong Marcos, Congressman Mark Villar, Congressman Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Princess Giselle Hirang, First Lady and Councilor Cristina Romualdez, Vice Mayor Sambo Yaokasin, Hon. Vangie Esperas, Hon. Eden Chua-Pineda, Hon. Willy Domingo, Atty. Jenny Lyn Manibay, Ms. Alma Moreno, Mr. Rey Langit, and representatives of the different NGO’s who worked with Tacloban every day.
In his message at the Anibong Memorial Marker unveiling ceremony, Mayor Romualdez recalled how the ship was anchored in the city harbor, killing residents of Brgy. Anibong and how it marks the city’s advocacy for resiliency and adaptation to a new normal. “Let this memorial remind all of us that in times of despair and disaster, it is time to bring out the best in us. It is always time to unite because at the end of the day, nasa isang barko lang tayo,” he added.
Mayor Alfred, on behalf of the City Government of Tacloban, thanked all those who helped Tacloban in his speech at the Astrodome Memorial Marker Unveiling Ceremony. “Let this memorial be a symbol to all the leaders of the world to work hard for the next generation and to always remind us that in times of desperation, we have a duty not only to the people but to God,” he said.
