City enjoins public to support 2013 Brigada Eskwela

TACLOBAN CITY-The City Government of Tacloban thru the leadership of Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez is gearing up for this year’s launching of Brigada Eskwela, also urging everyone to help the program for the benefit of the students.

The city is set to distribute the P50,000 annual Brigada Eskwela financial support to all public elementary and secondary schools in the city on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, at the Tacloban City Convention Center (Astrodome).

Dr. Gorgonio G. Diaz Jr., the OIC Division Superintendent of Tacloban, will also award the division entries to the 2012 Best Brigada Eskwela implementer.

This include the Sagkahan National High School (Big School category- Secondary level), Cirilo Roy Montejo National High School (Small School category- Secondary level), San Jose Central School (Big School category- Elementary level), and V and G Memorial School (Small school category – Elementary level).

Certificates of Appreciation will also be awarded to the local external stakeholders’ participation for last year’s Brigada Eswkela.

Among the awardees are the City Government of Tacloban thru Mayor Alfred Romualdez and the World Vision ADP Tacloban represented by its program officer, Ms. Grecilda G. Baloro, for supporting seven schools in the city and for their financial support to various schools.

Mr. Edgar Tenesas, city division Brigada Eskwela (BE) program coordinator, stressed the principle behind this program which is to prepare the schools for the new opening of classes this June.

“We need active participation from the teachers, students, parents or guardians and the community. We also enjoined the participation of the barangay and city officials including the external stake holders which include the businessmen and NGOs during the Brigada Eskwela in their respective areas here in Tacloban,” said Tenasas.

“To the faculty members and school heads, we hope that you will never give up from the negative response from the community in the past years. We should go on and continue encouraging them,” she added.

Brigada Eskwela is under the DepEd’s Adopt- a- school program which develops a working relationship of the school with the private sector and the local government units.

Brigada Eskwela’s kick-off activities will be on May 20-25, 2013.
