Mayor Romualdez thanked the awardees for their invaluable contribution to the economy of Tacloban, and assured them that their taxes go to projects that benefit City residents.
The recognized taxpayers are consistent in the payment of their Real Property and Business Taxes; their contributions help the City Government achieve its collection target said the City Treasurer’s Office (CTO).
Criteria for the selection of the outstanding taxpayers are: they contribute the highest amount of taxes paid to the City, never incurred any delinquency in the payment of taxes, consistent awardees and supportive of the programs of the City Government.
Mayor Romualdez said the conversion of Tacloban to a Highly Urbanized City (HUC) in 2008 contributed to the influx of investors to the City which now host big mall developers SM and Robinsons Land Corporation.
Robinsons Land Corporation opened its second Mall in the City on December 14; citing the amazing economic activity in Tacloban as its reason for opening another full-service mall.
A recent report from the CTO now pegs the income of Tacloban at more than a Billion pesos; and more than a thousand new businesses have opened in the City this year, Tacloban being the Region’s Business Hub. – Henry James Roca
