BOD appointed by City Gov’t assumes LMWD
TACLOBAN CITY (CIO) – Water concessioners in this City will now have enough reason to expect better water service. After more than 10 years, management of the Leyte Metropolitan Water District (LMWD) has finally reverted back to the City Government of Tacloban.
On Thursday, January 18 the City Government appointed Board of Directors; namely Engr. Roberto Munoz, Atty. Bautista Corpin, Atty. Jenny Lyn Manibay, Atty. Sharilee Angela Gaspay and Ms. Bernardita Valenzuela assumed management of the water utility company.
This is following the statement issued by Acting General Manager Pastor Homeres recognizing the appointed Board of Directors of Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez.
Homeres in a statement read by Board Secretary Atty. Manibay, said that, “I have reconsidered my stand on your appointment as Board of LMWD and I am recognizing you all as such.
“I am glad that the LMWD Employees Association has duly recognized you to the extent of withdrawing their support to the appointed BOD of the Leyte Governor. Indeed the LMWD employees and consumers have expectations from you, “he added.
The BOD then issued a Board Resolution re-appointing Homeres as Acting General Manager of LMWD.
The statement was issued after a 14-hour vigil of LMWD employees and the City Government appointed BOD at the LMWD office in Diit which started on Wednesday afternoon. The vigil was a result of a mass action of union employees against the provincial-government appointed BOD. – Henry James Roca
