Ayala, UMCOR, PDRF donate multi-purpose building to City Elem School
TACLOBAN CITY –Nearly four years after Yolanda ravaged this City, assistance from Non-Government Organizations continues to pour in, as the Local Government Unit (LGU) carries its efforts to full rehabilitation. One such assistance came in the form of a multi-purpose building cum evacuation center.
On June 26, Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez, along with officials of the Ayala Foundation Incorporated (AFI) led by its President Ruel Maranan, the Philippine Disaster Relief Foundation (PDRF) through its President Rene Meily and United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) inaugurated a Multi-purpose Hall – Evacuation Center at the A.P. Bañez Memorial Elementary School.
Worth 14 million pesos, the 2 -storey, 4-room Multi-Purpose Hall Building was built with funds from UMCOR, AFI and PDRF and can accommodate up to 250 people during an emergency.
The building completed last June 15 is equipped with Gender-sensitive facilities like Lactation Stations, ramp, Kitchen, standby Generator Set and Water Tanks.
During the turn-over ceremony, Maranan said that the building is a token of support to the rehabilitation efforts of Tacloban. He also lauded the support of the LGU and expressed confidence on the leadership of Mayor Romualdez.
Meanwhile, the Mayor expressed her gratitude for the donation that will be used by the Public Elementary School and the three communities it serve, namely barangays 75, 76 and 77. A.P. Bañez has a student population of 700 schoolchildren and teaching force of 22 teachers.
The inauguration was also attended by Vice-Mayor Jerry Yaokasin, City Administrator Atty. Irene Chiu, City Information Officer Bernardita B.
