562 Complete City Summer Sports Clinics
TACLOBAN CITY – Some 562 participants of the Mayor Cristina G. Romualdez Summer Sports Clinics 2017 received their Certificates of Participation from the City Sports Office, on Thursday, May 18 during its Culmination Program held at the Activity Area of Robinsons Place Tacloban.
The number represented those who completed the 8 programs of the Summer Sports Clinics, namely Badminton, Swimming, Taekwondo, Karatedo, Basketball, Volleyball, Dance Sports and Table Tennis.
City Sports Director Joel R. Bugho reported that the participants had undergone training for more than a month in sports programs subsidized by the local government.
According to Bugho the program is part of the local government’s efforts to instill discipline among young Taclobanons and produce homegrown Sports Talents.
During the Program Atty. Marie Ronette Barreda, Executive Assistant to Mayor Romualdez read a message from the Chief Executive which underscored the importance of Sports Development.
The Mayor said, “…the City Government recognizes character development and values formation in sports.
She added that through sports, “life values such as determination, discipline, teamwork, perseverance, hard work and respect for others…these will not only make them champions in sports, but winners in life.”
The Sports Clinic which started during the time of Former Alfredo “Bejo” Romualdez is a yearly sports program implemented by the City Government to encourage youth to make the best out of their summer vacation by engaging in worthwhile sports activities. – HENRY JAMES G. ROCA/CIO
