24 Pedicab Drivers Receive Livelihood Assistance from the City Government
Tacloban City – Last January 26, 2016, the DOLE Integrated Livelihood and Emergency Employment Program of the Department of Labor and Employment, in partnership with the City Government of Tacloban through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO), turned over 24 units of pedicab to 24 pedicab drivers from Tacloban City. These pedicabs are part of the 85 units of pedicabs to be released by DOLE as livelihood aassitance.
Ms. Emilia A. Cruz, PESO Manager, thanked everyone who partnered with them especially the Mayor Romualdez and Councilor Romualdez for their support. She added, “I would like to thank the representative from DOLE because of the livelihood assistance they have given to us. In fact last December 2015, there were three livelihood assistance given to the people of Tacloban. In return, we would like to ask for your cooperation to take good care of your pedicabs because you will earn from it. It will help your families. I must say, you are all lucky because of all the pedicab drivers in Tacloban City, you were the recipients.”
City Councilor Christina G. Romualdez in her message said that the pedicab drivers are inspiring people because no matter how hard their job is, they always find ways to smile. “You (pedicab drivers) are an inspiration because we all know that driving a pedicab is not easy. That is why you are here now. These pedicabs are blessings from God so you really have to take good care of them.” (JESSEL O. QUITORIO)
