2013 Miss Tacloban Pageant campaigns for rehab of Mangonbangon River
In a press conference held at the Balyuan Convention Center to formally present the pageant’s 12 candidates the organizers said it will start an advocacy to rehabilitate the stream which traverses 13 city Barangays. Mangonbangon River’s currently deteriorating condition is the perennial source of the City’s flood woes.
Councilor and City Tourism Council Chair Cristina G. Romualdez said the environmental advocacy is part of the effort to make Miss Tacloban a true ambassador of good will and a role model to young Taclobanons.
Councilor Romualdez added that the beauty contest will not only choose candidates with beauty and brains but someone with the values and sincerity to serve.
She said that to ensure these qualifications are met; the candidates underwent a rigid screening process conducted by members of the Sangyaw Foundation and I love Tacloban Movement.
The Ms. Tacloban winner will receive 50,000 cash prize a trophy and a crown and 50,000 for her advocacy project. First, 2nd and 3rd Runners-up will each receive 40,000, 30,000, 20,000 and 10,000 pesos.
Five thousand pesos each will be given to the Best in Talent, Best in Swimwear and Best in Gown winners. The Young Designer’s Award which will be given to the best Gown Designer will have 10,000, 8,000 and 5,000 for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
Early in the search, the twelve screened candidates received 6,000 pesos each as subsidy
Meantime, Councilor Romualdez said the pageant night on June 25 will be star-studded as GMA Artist Isabel Diaz and Bb. Pilipinas Beauty Queen Anna Marie Igpit will host the event. Matinee Idol and Kapuso Star Mark Herras will serenade the candidates during the pageant proper.
The board of judges for the prestigious pageant however was still unknown as the organizers are still finalizing the details. During the press conference members of the media get to cast their votes for the Darling of the Media Award.
The 2013 Miss Tacloban Candidates are Arbeth A. Babiano, Ronette L. Bathan, Michelle Cunilla, Debbie Jamaica Daria, Irish P. Delda, Jessa Pearl Dueñas, Maris Leonor Faustino, Bianca Alana Kantuna, Angelika Mae Lesigues, Regielle Erika Marin, Dyan Alyssa M. Regis and Glydelle Kiena Rojas.
